2016 Collaborators


Centre 42 is a non-profit organisation (with charity status) committed to the creation, documentation and promotion of texts and writings for the Singapore stage. The Centre is a research and developmental initiative that aims to support the Singapore theatre industry by creating original writing, while developing a functional archive documenting the histories and processes of Singapore theatre. Importantly, the Centre functions as an independent intermediary amongst makers, enablers and consumers, and strives to be a bridge to connect people by helping and supporting.

Day 1 of the “Mapping Out, In & About” Symposium is hosted by Centre 42.


Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay is Singapore’s national performing arts centre. Its year-round line-up of about 3,000 performances presented by Esplanade, its collaboration partners and hirers include a diverse calendar of ticketed and non-ticketed programmes featuring dance, music, theatre, visual arts and more, making the arts accessible for everyone. The centre works in close partnership with local, regional and international artists to develop artistic capabilities and content, push artistic boundaries and engage audiences. It also develops technical capabilities for the industry nationally.

This architectural icon, with its distinctive twin shells, houses world-class performance spaces complemented by a comprehensive range of professional support services. Its two main venues are the 1,600-seat Concert Hall and a Theatre with a capacity of 2,000. In May 2015, Esplanade was chosen as one of SG Heart Map’s 50 special places.

Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay is operated by The Esplanade Co Ltd, which is a not-for-profit organisation, a registered Charity and an Institution of a Public Character.

Day 2 of the “Mapping Out, In & About” Symposium is hosted by Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay.


The Japan Foundation is Japan’s principal institution dedicated to carrying out comprehensive international cultural exchange programmes throughout the world. The Asia Center, established within the Japan Foundation in April 2014, is a specialised unit with the goal to connect people, expand networks, and develop cultural programmes across Asia. The Asia Center endeavours to nurture among the people of Asia a common awareness for mutual coexistence and understanding as neighbours through activities embracing the four Cs: Create, Collaborate, Connect and Share, and Communicate.

The “Mapping Out, In & About” Symposium is supported by Asia Center’s Grant Program for Promotion of Cultural Collaboration.


The National Arts Council (NAC) was set up as a statutory board in September 1992 to spearhead the development of the arts in Singapore. NAC's mission is to nuture the arts and make it an integral part of the lives of the people in Singapore. Its vision is to develop Singapore into a distinctive global city for the arts.

The “Mapping Out, In & About” Symposium is supported by a grant from NAC.


BIG Hotel is a trendy boutique hotel located in the heart of Singapore city. Originally an office building, the 308-room property was converted and opened in 2013. BIG hotel was rated Best Hotel in Singapore for under S$200 by AsiaOne.

Big Hotel is the official hotel partner of the “Mapping Out, In & About” Symposium.
